Location Lighting - Speedlite Intermediate

For those of you who are comfortable with the basics and want to expand your knowledge of flash lighting techniques, the intermediate course will teach you how to get the most out of your equipment. Working with both on and off camera flash, throughout the day you’ll build, then adapt and expand lighting set ups, learning how ISO, shutter speed and aperture affect your exposure and how you can use these to create the light you want, balancing flash with other ambient light sources

Taking place at the studio and outside on location around Brighton, the session is a practical exploration of using mixed light sources to create interesting and arresting images, ideal for anyone who is looking to improve their skills in event or location photography.

You will work on the technical aspects of balancing flash, using ambient light. adding fill in flash for sunlit days, and working with multiple lights. ?As much of lighting on location involves trouble shooting, there is also an emphasis on finding simple effective solutions to lighting problems. You will also learn ways to create mood and bring warmth to your shots, creating dramatic portraits in environmental settings.

Other areas covered include; understanding colour temperature, creating soft and hard light, how to make a background dark or light, and equipment you can use to change the light in your images. Plenty of time is allocated throughout the day to practice with the guidance of your tutor, ensuring that you are comfortable with every technique. By the end of the day you’ll leave feeling confident that whether you are shooting a portrait, an event, or on location, you can create perfect light every time.
