Holy Ghost – SIX SIX SIX
Holy Ghost are an online collective based in London, whose website features interviews and photography from contemporary photographers around the world, publishing collective books and zines and curating exhibitions in London.
Also the founders of the short lived OTHER SPACE Gallery in Camberwell, they exhibited CREATES own Matt Martin’s 2nd solo show “Eat well, stay fit and die anyway” at the south London space back in 2010.
Their latest venture ‘SIX SIX SIX’- an exhibition to be held at Shoreditches Protein gallery is a group show with a twist, a simple concept that will nevertheless no doubt result in a complex insight into the methodology of those involved.
HOLY GHOST – “We gave six photographers (James Pearson-Howes, Max Knight, Jake Dow-Smith, Jess Gough, Paul Phung & Lewis Chaplin) a 36-exposure roll of 35mm film which they have 6 days to shoot.
Each film is then returned back to the Holy Ghost team who will develop the films on their behalf with the resulting pictures being exhibited for 6 days.
There will be no editing, no selection process and no chance for the artist to view their work prior to the exhibition. The only limitation is that they must choose to shoot in either landscape or portrait.
Following on thematically from our last open submissions show, the objective is to question the standard format of exhibiting photography.
The idea is to examine and question the role of the curator, both in the traditional sense and in regards to the self-curation by the artists themselves.
The outcome aims to capture a process rather than a finished product and is set to offer a unique insight into the style, thought process and character of the featured photographers” – Matt Ritson
