5,000 Miles over Christmas
Create founder, Kevin Mason, decided to forgo the usual traditional Christmas in 2011, and with a days notice jumped on a plane to the USA with a bunch of film and a Mamiya7. The aim was to shoot a project whilst driving through some of the more remote areas of the USA. Setting off on a trip that took him through the Dakotas, Montana, Wyoming, Nevada, California, Arizona, Utah, Iowa and Nebraska. Experiencing -10 degree snow storms to 80+ degree sunny days, snow chains on tires and frozen lakes to desert heat he covered 5,000 miles in 13 days on a loop that returned back through to Minneapolis St Paul on 3rd January.
Having made a cross country trip last summer with photographers Matt Martin and Alex Wein, this journey was an opportunity to slow things down, get off the interstate and look at the small towns of many of these states over the Christmas period. Here are some of the images he made on this trip.
If you click through on the images below, you will see the uncropped versions as our blog has quite a wide landscape frame for the slideshow.
We are currently working with Stampa on some newsprints of these images, which will be available as a collection very soon. Each edition will be slightly different featuring new and unseen work.
